Law-School Student Recruits
Our firm recruits highly motivated, personable law students with superior academic credentials for our summer associate program. We concentrate our recruiting efforts through on-campus interviews in the fall and spring at Louisiana law schools and in-office interviews with students from other law schools around the country. We hire both first and second year law students. Previous participants in our summer associate program have attended these law schools: LSU, Tulane, University of Virginia, University of Texas, Vanderbilt University and New York University.
We prefer that our summer associates work for a minimum of six weeks. We believe that a minimum six week period is necessary to accomplish our goal of the firm and student getting to know each other. The firm is flexible in scheduling work hours around summer classes and study time.
We believe that our summer associates receive an invaluable experience from our summer associate program. Our summer associates will be assigned two mentor attorneys from a specific practice area. If a summer associate has an interest in a particular area of law, we make every effort to accommodate that interest. The mentoring attorneys will provide work assignments, feedback, evaluation and a liaison to other attorneys in the firm. Although the relative drudgery of the library is an inevitable part of any clerkship program and plays a vital role in assessing a law student’s legal ability, we make an affirmative effort to expose clerks to the variety of problems and experiences that lawyers actually confront in the course of their practices. We seek to create an experience for our summer associates that mirrors the experience of a new associate attorney. Summer associates might attend trials and court hearings, depositions, case management meetings, court conferences and client meetings.
Various social functions are also planned during the summer so that we can enjoy getting to know one another. Past events have included firm luncheons, summer softball games, parties, TGIF outings, golf excursions and small group dinners at lawyer’s homes.
Our summer associate program has been developed to provide a unique, rewarding and beneficial experience for participating students. If you are interested in learning more, please contact our recruiting shareholder, Jennifer Hataway.
